Eric Wynalda blowhard calls for a Coulibaly investigation

Wynalda is a blowhard calling for an investigation into Koman Coulibaly.
Here he is making two points.
One that Komen Coulibaly after would always call back a free kick awarded to the USA for an imaginary infraction. The other was that there should have been more injury time minutes added on after Aleksandar Radosaveljic was stretchered off.
Maybe there is some validity to these calls but Wynalda also says that Coulibaly was born on the fourth of July as if he owes us. He makes that point three times.
“He is anything but American”.
Yeah, Eric, call for an investigation into Coulibaly for bias but feel free to add that he is born on Independence Day and therefore beholden to us. Somewhere in the US, a village is missing an idiot.
There is always these refereeing nightmares referee for the USA. It’s been an interesting phenomenon since the USA transformed itself from a lightweight in the international scene.
Jorge Larrionda: Italy vs USA, 2006
Eddie Pope and Pablo Mastroeni were sent off. Mastroeni was guilty of a dangerous two footed tackle but the initial reaction was that it was a “make up call” for sending of Daniele De Rossi for his vicious elbow to Brian McBride’s face. The USA drew Italy, 1-1

Markus Merk: Ghana vs USA, 2006

Razak Pimpong fell to the pitch after making contact with Oguchi Onyewu and replays showed it was incidental and not deliberate. The German referee Markus Merk saw it otherwise and awarded a penalty which Stephen Appiah converted. The USA lost to Ghana, 1-2. Merk is considered one the most respected referees of his times.
Komen Coulibaly made a big mistake. But to insinuate that he is taking money is a really huge accusation. And to ask for an investigation opens up the possibility for every country with an axe to grind against referees asking for the same.
So yes, on an emotionally satisfying cathartic level its nice to be football’s Bill O’Reilly but on a practical level FIFA will not touch this one with a barge pole.

  1. I agree that Wynalda is a total fool.
Also, you are missing probably the worst refereeing decision to go against the US in the World Cup, the Torsten Frings handball on the goal line that wasn’t called in the quarterfinal match between US and Germany.

  2. Jesse G, thanks for reminding me about Frings. I’ll post up that video of that amazing game. We could have gone to the semi-finals.

  3. What you are not comprehending was the amount of blown calls. Yes there have been incidences that are tantamount to this, but never so many. Come on, Findley’s yellow for a handball that went off of his face. This is the highest level of officiating and you are telling me he somehow thought a ball off of the face was so blatantly controlled by the arm that it warranted a card, in the offensive third of the field. Granted it is the best thing to happen to us, as Bunker Bob would never dream of sitting a forward who has failed to EVER score at the Intl. level.

  4. James, the Findley thing is the best thing that happened. Maybe Coulibaly did do his job 😉 That gets Buddle on the field with Gomez as a super sub.

  5. I would frankly like to see Dempsey up top with Altidore. At this point I am about ready to say just sit Altidore too, but we need a big, strong target forward, and Dempsey has the ball control and touch that would be a nice balance. We have no width right now, it seems as if Bunker Bob wants to get his width from Bocanegra and Cherundolo pushing up and it frankly isn’t working. We keep hitting insane long balls which neither Findley nor Alitdore seem able or willing to control or run onto. I vote we push Dempsy up top, put Holden in the midfield (I would say Torres but he looked shaky, maybe just nerves?) and try and get some width from the midfield. Altidore will be much more productive with someone of Dempsy’s ability level up top with him. Altodore needs to start prtoducing to live up to the hype, so lets give him someone up top who can distribute and make a creative play.
Findley is not as fast as he is made out to be and simply runs around with no understanding of the. He has ZERO Intl goals, he does not deserve to start in a World Cup, he can barely start in the MLS.
I just hope USSF someday realizes that we need a real INTL level coach. It shouldn’t be to the point where Findley needs to get a second yellow to ride the bench. Any quality coach would have left him off the roster entirely, let alone continue to start him on the biggest stage.

  6. And Bob is so blind that Buddle will not see a minute in this Cup I guarantee you. Who came on as a sub late in the SLV game… Gomez… Buddle still on the bench. Bob does not change his tactics EVER, no matter who the team. If the U.S. makes it out of group play I don’t care if Gomez or Buddle score 8 goals against Algeria, Findley is starting up top… I would bet my life on it. The man is insane.

  7. I remember Bradley would begin Bornstein everytime, even as he would give the ball up time and time, or foul and give up free kicks and penalties. It was just good old nepotism from his Chivas and uni days. Hopefully, with Findley gone in the next match, Buddle steps up and makes sure he gets the nod ahead of Findley if the USA get out of the group.

  8. Dudes, you all a bunch of oblivious amateours!!
You and that cocky idiot Erik made every possible connection exept the most obvious one:
Last time I checked, muslims hate US, last time I cheked MALI was a muslim country, friends and neighbors with Algeria!!!! If it falls on your heads from an airplane, you still wouldnt get it!!
Coulibaly didnt make any ‘mistake’, it was all purely premeditated, intentional, not only the call you mention, but the US victory goal, which he cancelle ‘before it was made’!! The whole
match he tried his best to stop US from advancing!! How do you guys even comprehend football and human interaction?
yeah, a lot of muslims put a bomb around their waist trying to kill americans, but a MUSLIM would not make a call against the US team??
It was so obvious, a 5 year old kid would’ve noticed!! By the way, FIFA never sends a ref home for a..’mistake’, only if they feel he was biased INTENTIONALLY! WELL, THEY KNOW AND THEY STOPPED HIM FROM HEADING MATCHES ANYNMORE!!
PAY THE FK ATTENTION EVEN TO HIS FACIAL EXPRESSIONS DURING ALL THE CALLS HE MADE AGAINST US, HE WAS LIKE” YEAH, YEAH, IM THE BOSS HERE AND YOU CANT DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT!!’ HE NEVER EVER EVEN UTTER AN EXPLANTION, HE DISMISSED THE US PLAYERS, EVEN THE CAPTAIN, LIKE THEY WERE HIS PERSONAL ENEMIES! WATCH IT AGAIN, AND JUST WATCH HIS ACTIONS ONLY!!! BY THE WAY, IM NOT A ‘YANK'(so you can accuse me of bias)IM FROM ..EUROPE LIVING IN US, AND PLAY, WATCH AND COACH SOCCER FOR OVER 40 YEARS, SO SPARE ME YOUR CHEAP SHOTS! ITS SIMPLE: A MUSLIM MADE INTENTIONAL BAD CALLS AGAINST UNITED STATES!!

  9. Wynalda made an even bigger idiot of himself today after the Spain v Portugal game, saying that he was “embarrassed” by the level of play on the field. As if he is in anywhere close to the league of the likes of Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Ronaldo, Villa, Torres, Carvalho, Inuesta, etc etc etc.
Someone please take the microphone away from this idiot to save him from embarrassing himself any further.

  10. Thanks, just wrote a post on that. Wynalda would not be fit to polish their boots- he is a clod.
