It was just a question of how long they would last.Chile took a quick 2-0 lead through Alexis Sanchez and Jorge Valdivia.
However Tim Cahill pulled a goal back for Australia with a fine 35th-minute header and suddenly it was not all one sided.
The match looked to be heading for a laboured win for Chile before substitute Jean Beausejour hit a third goal in stoppage time.
Plenty of evidence of the good old never say die spirit of the Socceroos.
