Quaresma’s goal for Portugal was brilliant -a curling shot with the outside of his right foot from the edge of the penalty area that was beyond the reach of the Iran goalie’s desperate dive.Portugal had the chance to make it 2 – 0 in the 53rd minute when Ronaldo stepped up to take a penalty.But he missed.And to make it worse Iran were awarded a penalty in the 90th minute which they did not miss.

So Messi and Ronaldo are now even in terms of penalties missed in this World Cup.Messi still has some catching up to do though.

And poor old Ronaldo joins the list of all time football greats who went and missed penalties in the World Cup

Portugal go through to the next round but in second place to Spain – who elsewhere drew 2- 2 against Morocco.
