Heartbreak for Salah and Egypt. South Africa qualified for the last 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams in the tournament. They ended the group stages with one win and two losses, with the only win coming against Namibia.
Egypt on the other hand did really well and Salah has been in scintillating form.
So SA were really not expected to beat Egypt at home in front of a fully packed Cairo International Stadium.
And yet that’s what they did.
