Zindane’s headbutt immortalised in bronze

Here’s something we at Soccerblog just discovered a little while ago.
A 16 foot bronze statue of Zidane’s infamous butt headbutt in the 2006 World Cup had been created in circa 2011 by an Algerian artist Adel Abdessemed .

The work of art goes by the name “Coup de Tete,” which translates all too simply as “headbutt.”
The statue was put up on the Doha seafront in 2013 but had to be removed after 4 weeks because of objections to it on religious grounds.
Officials in charge of Qatar 2022 are hoping to be able to once again put it on display in November before the world cup starts so that the world can once again remember poor old Zidane’s moment of madness.
