Cristiano Ronaldo’s soft penalty difference maker: Portugal scrape win against Ghana

Cristiano-Ronaldo
Cristiano Penaldo ahem Ronaldo makes history

This was a testy match. And it took a really soft penalty decision to break the stalemate because till then Portugal looked like a side backing into a cul de sac. Multiple times. As it is Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with his penalty, thus making history as the first player to score in 5 successive World Cups.

This Portugese side has some real prima donnas: Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandez, and Joao Felix. However all three played a huge part in Portugal’s eventual victory.

Andrew Ayew’s equalizer restored parity. But Ghana promptly got punished with errant giveaways and horrendous defending giving up two goals on counters courtesy some cool and clinical finishes by Felix and Rafael Leao. Credit the Black Stars, they never gave up, despite that adverse scoreline. They grabbed a goal back by second half sub Osman Bukari. And in the dying minutes could have even grabbed an unlikely and memorable equalizer.

Ghana lost but they have a very good chance of going through to the second stage from their group because frankly South Korea and Uruguay in their match looked lack luster.
