Manchester United win without having to wait for Fergie time

Fergie Time” refers to the extra minutes added on at the end of a match (stoppage time) during which Manchester United, in the Sir Alex Ferguson years, had a reputation for scoring dramatic late goals. It was rumoured that referees were affected by the Fergusian Time Dilation effect causing their watches to slow down mysteriously till United scored ….winners or equalisers as required.

Manchester United staged an extraordinary comeback to defeat Olympique Lyonnais 5–4 without having to resort to the Fergie time tactic at Old Trafford. After taking a 2–0 first half lead with goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot they allowed Lyons to score 2 in the second half taking the game to extra time- during which Lyon’s scored two more goals. A 4-2 score with 112 minutes on the clock looked like something that even Fergie would have despaired at. However United scored three goals in the remaining 8 minutes – the last two being scored in the `120th minute by Mainoo and Maguire.

An extraordinary comeback – never seen before in the Europa League.
