FIFA goes green

The green card is part of a new system called Football Video Support (FVS) which allows coaches to challenge certain decisions in matches (goals, penalties, direct red cards, mistaken identity) That chuckling sound you can hear in the background is Mourinho. He can’t wait to get a chance to try this out.

Each team gets two challenges per match. If a challenge is successful (i.e. decision overturned), the team retains the use; if not, they lose one.

The first use was in the Morocco vs Spain match at the U-20 World Cup in Chile where Morocco used the green card challenge to overturn a penalty that had been awarded to Spain. Details here…

A slightly exaggerated video on the topic….

Rumours are doing the rounds that FIFA is also planning to have blue cards for stylish haircuts, purple cards for good diving technique, and a glittery rainbow card for players who can play three games in a row without getting any cards.
