Is this going to be the time that Salah lifts the AFCON at last . There was heart break in 2017 and 2021 when Egypt ended up runners up.
Salah’s impact so far
- Match-winning goals: Salah scored a stoppage-time winner in Egypt’s opener against Zimbabwe, helping them to a 2–1 victory. That goal also made him the first Egyptian to score in five consecutive AFCON tournaments.
- He also converted a penalty in Egypt’s 1–0 win over South Africa, which secured Egypt’s place in the Round of 16 with a game to spare.
- In Egypt’s final group game, Salah was rested and didn’t start, ending his run of 21 straight AFCON starts. That game against Angola ended in a 0-0 draw.
So far Salah has scored late winners, tucked away penalties, broken another record and dragged Egypt through the group stage without losing a match. Destiny beckons..
