Spain sail into the semis..

La Roja triumphed in yet another nail-biting fixture against Belgium. The 2-1 victory will come back to haunt Belgium’s substitute goalkeeper Senne Lammens in his nightmares. He made a costly error that led to Spain’s winning goal in the dying minutes of a game headed to extra time.

Heroic super-sub, Mikel Merino, gave Spain yet another reason to glorify his name. His brilliant positioning and finishing broke the deadlock and sent Spain through to the semi-finals.

“Data tracks the ball, eyes track the genius.” Lamine Yamal invoked his inner Neymar and gave us a worthwhile show on the right flank. Maybe he didn’t score or assist, but brought joy to the fans with his flairful playstyle.

For the Belgian fans, there’s an added sadness to the sadness of losing. This might very well be Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois’ last ever world cup. They are two international treasures, who will be missed by more than just the Belgians.

Next in line for Spain, is France.

A much awaited match will be sure to entertain us – The Spanish Armada versus the Formidable French frontline.

“It’s never about who the odds favour, it’s about who wants it bad enough.” (LP)
