FIFA adopted the Confederation’s Cup in the 1990’s – as one of Blatter’s ideas to generate a bit more moolah for FIFA.The holders of each of the six confederations – UEFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, CAF, AFC, OFC,the reigning FIFA World Cup holder and the host nation make up the 8 nations that play the tournament every four years.
The tournament,contrary to Blatter’s expectations,has failed to live up to it’s star billing and most people don’t even know that it exists.Those that do know about it’s existence find it hard to stay awake for the entire duration of the games.
Plus the tournament has a built in jinx that has ensured that any country winning the tournament does not win the subsequent World Cup.
Hence it looks like Gianni Infantino is thinking of giving the event a quiet burial when no one is looking.

In the meantime yesterday the reigning World Cup German team managed to beat Australia by the skin of their teeth – holding on to win 3 -2.
