Hugo Lloris pulled off the best saves of the World Cup to deny Uruguay’s Diego Godin what would have been an equalising goal at that stage.

At the other end of the field a little later Fernando Muslera made a most godawful blunder in making a straightforward clearance and gifted France with a second goal.

Uruguay’s attack without Cavani (injured) was pretty toothless.Toothless is an ironic kind of description of a forward line which has Suarez in it but that’s the way it turned out.
France are through to the semis.Uruguay are out.
