More shock: South Korea pip Uruguay to advance

Hungry like a wolf: Wolves striker Hwang Hee Chan comes up with the winning goal against Portugal

Hwang Hee-Chan’s 91st goal winner against Portugal was enough for them to temporarily occupy the second spot in Group H. That goal was possible only because of the phenomenal endeavour of Heung-Min Son, driving solo 60 yards, holding off about three defenders, and at the right moment slipping in the ball for the arriving Hwang.

They had to wait another 7 anxious minutes hoping Uruguay leading Ghana, 2-0 in their final group encounter would not be able to score another goal, giving La Celeste, a crucial advantage in goal differential. When the final whistle blew, South Korea were through.

Congratulations South Korea. They join Japan and Australia, the other successful AFC sides this World Cup. Asia are the big winners in this World Cup.
