Arise Sir David

Lo, in these latter days, there arose a man called David of the house of Beckham, famed far and wide for his swift feet and cunning footplay upon the green fields of England. A servant he was to the Three Lions, bearing their hopes upon his shoulders with steadfast heart and noble mien. With golden hair and a right foot like unto a bow of steel, he smote the ball with great might, and his name was sung in mead-halls and hearths across the land.

And it came to pass, after many years of toil and glory, that the crown beheld his deeds with favor. For he had brought honour to his realm not by sword or shield, but by sport and fair conduct. So was he called unto the presence of the sovereign, and there dubbed knight by sword’s tap upon his shoulder.

Thus did Sir David rise, no longer only a hero of the game, but a noble knight of the realm. And men spake of his worth, saying: “Worthy is he, who hath served with grace, and brought light unto the hearts of his countrymen.”
